Duette Locally Grown Availbllity

This week we feature Escarole.Escarole is related to Belgian and curly endive but has broad, slightly curved pale green leaves with a milder flavor than either of them. Both curly endive and escarole are available year-round, with the peak season from June through October. They should be selected for their fresh, crisp texture; avoid heads with discoloration or insect damage. Store curly endive and escarole tightly wrapped in the refrigerator for up to three days. They’re both used mainly in salads but can also be briefly cooked and eaten as a vegetable or in soups.
Please have a look at what we have to offer this week.
Thank you.

French Filet Beans

Happy New Year everyone. To start this year off with flavor, our newest vege is French Beans, or Haricots Verts (French for “French Bean”). They are also referred to as French green beans, fine beans, and filet beans, a variety of green beans that is longer, thinner, crispier, and tenderer than your average green bean. You no longer have to go to a fine restaurant to enjoy these beans. We have them right here at Duette Locally Grown for you enjoyment. We also have Italian green beans and our regular green beans. Please have a look at what we have to offer and place your orders.
Thank you.

Featured This Week

Dear Friends,
This week our special vegetable is Kohlrabi. It looks a little odd but it is delicious
As soon as you bring your kohlrabi home, separate the leaves from the bulbs. Keep both the leaves and the bulbs in the fridge; the leaves go in a sealed zip-top plastic bag, the bulbs are stored loose. Use the leaves within a few days, but the unpeeled bulbs will last for weeks.

Eat It All

Although the bulb of the plant is the most frequently prepared and eaten portion, the leaves are also entirely edible. Chiffonade them finely and toss them in a vinaigrette, or give them a rough chop and either steam or sauté them, as you would collard greens or kale.

Also, this week we have some green tomatoes, red cherry tomatoes and small yellow pear tomatoes. Please place your orders.

Thank you,
David and Betty
